Before you buy a travel eSIM, confirm that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. An eSIM cannot be installed on an incompatible or carrier-locked phone, and Roamiya cannot refund purchases that fail for these reasons. This guide walks you through three ways to check compatibility so you can buy with confidence.
If you do not want to scroll through device lists, the fastest way to confirm support is the automated checker. It covers all major brands and models.
The most reliable manual check works on every phone, regardless of brand:
- Open your phone app and dial
*#06#.
- Look at the information displayed on screen.
- If you see an EID number (a 32-digit identifier), your phone supports eSIM.
- If no EID appears, your phone likely does not support eSIM or the feature is disabled by your carrier.
This test takes five seconds and does not require an app, a website, or a store visit.
All iPhones from the XS and XR series (released 2018) onward support eSIM:
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR
Important exception: iPhones purchased in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao generally do not support eSIM, with limited exceptions (iPhone 13 Mini, 12 Mini, SE 2020, and XS). If you bought your iPhone in one of these markets, verify the EID using the dial code test above before purchasing.
Most flagship Samsung devices from 2020 onward support eSIM:
- Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra
- Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra
- Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra
- Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra
- Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra
- Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
- Galaxy Z Flip 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
- Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra
Samsung A-series and M-series budget phones vary by market. Check for the EID or look in Settings, then Connections, then SIM Manager. If you see "Add eSIM," your device supports it.
Pixel phones have consistently supported eSIM since the Pixel 4:
- Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9a
- Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a
- Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a
- Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a
- Pixel 4, 4a, 5, 5a
- Pixel Fold
Check in Settings, then Network and Internet, then SIMs. If you can tap "Add SIM" and see download options, your Pixel is ready.
Go through this list before you complete your purchase:
If all five items check out, your phone is ready for a Roamiya eSIM.
Once you have confirmed compatibility,
compare eSIM options to see pricing for your destination, or go straight to a specific plan like
Malaysia eSIM or
China eSIM. If your device is not compatible, you can still use a physical local SIM purchased at your destination, though you will miss the convenience of instant activation and dual-SIM flexibility.
