QR scanning is the fastest way to install an eSIM, but it is not the only way. Manual activation works just as reliably and is the fallback when your camera is broken, your screen is cracked, or the QR code image is too small or blurry to scan.
The two values you need come from your Roamiya confirmation email, in the section labeled "Manual Activation Details":
- SM-DP+ Address: A server hostname like
rsp.truphone.com or gdsb.net. This tells your phone which provisioning server to contact.
- Activation Code: A long string of letters and numbers that authenticates your download request.
Copy both values to your clipboard before you start. Pasting is far less error-prone than typing.
- Open Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM.
- Tap Use QR Code.
- Tap Enter Details Manually at the bottom of the scanning screen.
- Paste the SM-DP+ Address into the first field.
- Paste the Activation Code into the second field.
- Leave "Confirmation Code" blank unless your email specifically includes one.
- Tap Next and follow the prompts.
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Add eSIM.
- Tap "Scan QR code" to reach the scanning screen.
- Tap the text link "Enter activation code" below the scanner.
- On newer Galaxy devices (One UI 5.1+), you will see separate fields for the SM-DP+ address and activation code. Paste each one into its field.
- On older Galaxy devices, combine the values into a single string:
LPA:1$SM-DP-ADDRESS$ACTIVATION-CODE and paste the whole thing.
- Tap Add.
- Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add SIM.
- Select "Download a new eSIM."
- Tap "Need help?" or "Enter manually" on the scanning screen.
- Paste the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code.
- Tap Download or Continue.
"Invalid Code" or "Invalid Address"
This almost always means a hidden space at the start or end of the pasted text. Delete and re-paste carefully. Also check that you did not swap the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code fields -- they look similar at a glance but the server will reject a swapped pair.
"Looking for plan..." stuck for more than two minutes
The provisioning server cannot be reached. Check that you are on a stable WiFi connection. Restart your phone and try again. If it persists, the SM-DP+ address may have a typo -- re-copy it from your email.
"eSIM already downloaded"
You (or someone else) already scanned the QR code. Check your SIM manager to see if the profile is already installed. If you deleted it, the code cannot be reused. See our guide on
what to do if your eSIM was deleted.
If both QR scanning and manual entry fail, the most likely cause is a carrier-locked phone. Even phones that support eSIM hardware cannot download a new profile if the carrier has restricted SIM changes.
Check your lock status and learn what to do next in our
locked vs. unlocked phones guide.
For device-level compatibility questions, use our
device compatibility checker.
If your phone is unlocked and both methods fail, contact support with a screenshot of the error, your phone model, and your order number. We can verify the provisioning status on our end.
